Community Engagement

At P&D Lydon, we believe in building strong foundations—not only in construction but in our communities. As part of our long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility, we have actively participated in multiple community engagement initiatives throughout the years.
We have been involved in sponsoring local community schools including the Cross N.S Parents Association, along with sponsoring local GAA Clubs such as the Neale GAA. We have been proud sponsors of multiple community events such as ‘Lukes Truck Run’ in aid of Cross National School, multiple cycle races in aid of Pieta House and involvement of the annual Cross Festival with events such as the ‘Cow Crap Competition’ with all proceeds going to Cancer Care West and Western Alzheimer’s.
We demonstrate our commitment to the community by organizing educational initiatives such as School Safety Talks and competitions that promote health and safety among younger generations. In addition, we run training courses—such as the Safepass Course—at local centres, actively inviting small businesses and local personnel. These efforts aim to raise awareness and promote high standards of construction safety across the regions in which we operate.
P&D Lydon also work in conjunction with the Atlantic Technology University (ATU) providing Civil Engineering apprenticeships every year, along with providing work experience programmes to young people from secondary schools around the locality.

Glencorrib National School, Co.Mayo – Safety Talk

The Health and Safety Team Members from P&D Lydon visited Glencorrib National School to deliver a safety talk, teaching primary school students about the importance of staying safe in school and on the roads. The visit aimed to raise awareness in a fun and engaging way, helping children understand potential risks on the roads and in school.

The Neale GAA local football team sponsorship

P&D Lydon have also been proud sponsors of The Neale GAA Club

Rory’s Miles 2 Mayo Charity Marathon

P&D Lydon were proud sponsors of ‘Rory’s Miles 2 Mayo’ charity walk. Rory took on the enormous challenge of walking from Daisy Lodge in Newcastle, Co.Down to Cong, Co.Mayo. All proceeds went to Cancer Fund for Children.

P&D Annual Wellbeing Wednesday - Workplace Canteen Wellness Treats & Hampers

P&D Lydon hosts ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ throughout the month of May every year. This involves giving out healthy snacks and treats and incorporating ‘wellness walks’ into the workday as a way of showing compassion and promoting a healthy workplace environment as well as improving worker relationships. There is also reflection on the different aspects of the Employee Assistance Programme which evaluates the areas on Physical, Emotional and
Financial Wellbeing. At P&D Lydon, the importance of mental and physical health is highly understood and the aim is to highlight this through the organization of similar events every year.

Women In Construction Programme

P&D Lydon also work in co-ordination with the ‘Women in Construction’ programme. This programme offers the opportunity to launch a new career path for women and overcome barriers and challenges in this sector. P&D offer four-week placements for women who are intrigued to learn more about the construction and civil engineering industry. Appreciatively, candidates who have completed their four-week placement have continued to work and build their construction career with P&D Lydon. Understanding the various aspects of construction work and developing civil engineering workplace skills can be difficult, but the ‘Women in Construction’ programme is a great pathway to learn and grow in this industry.

Re-Turn Recycling Fundraising Initiative

The ‘Re-Turn Recycling Fundraising Initiative’ has been launched as a source for raising funds for local communities, schools and sports teams. The initiative involves the recycling of plastic bottles to the designated donating points that P&D Lydon have provided. The proceeds will go towards a cause chosen by a community representative and the cause chosen will change every four months. Not only is the initiative a great way to raise funds for the locality, but also a great way to reduce the carbon footprint.

Lukes Truck Run

On 31st of August 2024, P&D Lydon sponsored and took part in the local fundraiser ‘Lukes Truck Run’.
Luke, who was a dear friend of the community, had recently passed away after a brief illness. He had spent much of his life working in the haulage industry, which is why his family decided a Truck Run would be a fitting tribute for his memory.
The fundraiser was organized by the O’Malley family, led by his wife Mary and children Ava and Jamie. Funds were donated to the local school, where Luke had attended in his younger years.
A total of 113 trucks joined the truck run. It began in Headford, Co.Galway and made its way through Luke’s home village of Cross, over to his workplace in Cornamona, and back to Cross.
‘Luke’s Truck Run was a tremendous success, a very memorable and special day for his family and friends, and a reflection of the esteem in which Luke O’Malley was held in the local and wider communities.’
