Longford Connected Public Realm Enhancement Project

Project Description

Located in Longford Town Centre, the site extents spread over two locations: Market Square and pedestrian link from Main Street along Grafton Court, Shopping Centre and Northeast Car Park.
Works were carried out in a busy town environment with an AADT of approximately 12,000. A Stage 2 & 3 Road Safety Audit was carried out on the Temporary Traffic Management that was designed, implemented and maintained by P&D Lydon.

The scope of the project included:

  • Urban Realm improvements, some works adjacent to N63 and N5 national routes
  • The carriageway to the north of Market Square and along Grafton Court became shared surfaces paved with asphalt
  • Creation of more pedestrianized feel to the town by widening footpaths
  • All pedestrianized areas resurfaced with granite paviours
  • Installation of public lighting
  • Re-location of some underground services and utilities
  • New surface water drainage network along Grafton Court
  • Works phased with Grafton Court being completed first and then moving onto Market square, preventing town disruption
  • Liaison with commercial and residential units before and throughout the works allowing access always being maintained
  • The installation of new regulatory and pedestrian signage as well as road markings
  • Replacement of pedestrian crossings
