N69 Kilcornan Traffic Calming Scheme (January 2020 – August 2020)

Project Description

The scheme included the construction of new footpaths in a variety of finishes including concrete and natural stone block paving The scheme also included new street lighting and a road surface water drainage water. The aim of the scheme is to reduce vehicular traffic speeds and provide a safer environment for vulnerable road users.It consisted of a mixture of On and Offline works. The online works were complicated by high traffic volumes due to the N17 being a main connection route in the area. 

The scope of the project included:

  • Realignment of the existing road width, planning, and resurfacing of the entire scheme, including tie-ins to all interconnecting side roads.
  • New footpath, shared surfaces, and parking areas in concrete and 1000m² natural stone block paving.
  • Raising or lowering of all service covers in the carriageway to new levels.
  • Resurfacing of the existing road carriageway and construction of a new carriageway.
  • Construction of 3 pedestrian crossings, including all associated road signage, road markings, and tactile paving.
  • A proposed new surface water storm sewer system.
  • New road markings and road traffic signs, and relocation of existing signage.
  • Traffic Management throughout the duration of the works.
  • New drainage gullies and drainage system outfalling to the stream.
  • New street lighting scheme with associated electrical power supply equipment and civil works.
  • New power supply ducting and chambers, and new telecommunications ducting and chambers to facilitate grounding of the overhead Eir network.
  • New boundary treatment at the realigned Cowpark Junction and new walls and gates at the realigned junction to the school/community hub.
