Patrickswell Village Renewal Scheme – Phase 2 (March 2023 – September 2023)

Project Description

P&D Lydon carried out a village renewal of Patrickswell, County Limerick. The village renewal scheme consists of the upgrade of the public realm and remodelling of the layout to improve traffic management along Main Street in Patrickswell and deliver an urban layout for the village in keeping with the needs of all relevant stakeholders. Construction of Phase 1 of the scheme was completed in Q2 2018, starting from the eastern end of the village at the Marian grotto to the Applegreen service station in the village centre. Phase 1 was 300m in length. Phase 2 involved the tie-in at the Applegreen service station west wards for a distance of 490m to the entrance to Patrickswell Enterprise Centre (IDA site).

The scope of the project included:

  • Road realignment and narrowing of the carriageway widths.
  • Reconstruction of newer, wider footpaths in decorative brick paving, with provision of orderly roadside parking areas.
  • Improvement of junctions along the routes.
  • Providing consistent pedestrian facilities, including the construction of a continental-style roundabout.
  • A signal-controlled pedestrian crossing and several uncontrolled pedestrian crossings.
  • A raised pedestrian crossing.
  • New street lighting and grounding of overhead power and telecommunications cables.
  • Provision of new ESB ducting, Eir ducting, and spare telecommunications ducting.
  • Modifications to surface water drainage.
  • Road reconstruction and resurfacing, including colored road surfacing.
  • Footpath reconstruction and construction of new footpaths and hard landscaped areas with a decorative paving block finish.
  • New traffic signs and road markings.
  • The total area of the works is 10,200 square meters, including approximately 4,730 square meters of road surfacing.
