About this Project
This project involves the reconstruction of 8 road and pedestrian bridges on Regional and Local Roads throughout Co. Galway. These included the following bridges;
- Ballynakill Bridge
- Philbin’s Bridge
- Cooheenaheeny Steel Pedestrian Bridge
- Graigabbey Bridge
- Curraghduff East Bridge
- Shreavagh Bridge
- Lough Fadda Bridge
- Cloonabricka Bridge
The works involved the widening and reconstruction of large existing masonry stone arched bridges throughout County Galway.
The works had to be carried out without interference to the existing river flow and while still maintaining traffic movements on the main roads to both pedestrian and traffic users.
The extension to the Gothic Arch on Philbins Bridge was made from insitu hand cut formwork erected on a temporary platform constructed over the riverbed which still maintained river flow.
Works were undertaken in and around watercourses and environmentally sensitive locations.
Working in conjunction with third party requirements such as Inland Fisheries Ireland and National Parks and Wildlife Services.
Implementation of water management in a river environment and the implementation of a Construction Environmental Management Plan.
